A downloadable game

This is a new Commodore 64 game in progress.

In snake escape the goal is to escape each room. There are infinite rooms. But each room is a little more difficult then the previous.  You play it fast or slow. It is up to you which strategy you choose.   Do you want to get to the highest level, or make the most points?

To escape rooms, you need to reach the door. Sometimes the door is locked, and you need a key.  A key can be bought, with stars, which you can collect on the way.  To few stars and you don't get further. To many stars, and you get bonus points.

The game is played with Joystick on port #2 and there are 3 difficulty settings.

This game is a port of my other game called "B3 Snake Escape".

Did you know that this game is available on Commodore 64, but also has a version that you can directly play in the browser, here?  https://cursorkeysretrogames.itch.io/b3-snake-escape

Install instructions

This is a PRG file. This is a file extension for the Commodore 64

You can play this file in two ways.  Either use an emulator, such as VICE, and use smart-attach... to load the game (don't forget to click the autostart button)

Or you can create yourself a D64 image, and put this file on it.  This D64 image can then be used by an emulator, or a real Commodore C64, with a SD-to-floppy disk-adapter.

If you cannot get it to work, feel free to ask, I am happy to help out.

Really nice game. Is "Snake Escape 64" now finished, or is it still a demoversion (the game-menue suggests this).

Hi Sparky-D

Thanks!
It is not fully finished yet, and has been through some setbacks, that stopped a version to be completed.
I am still working on it, and the current plan is that during Xmass I may have enough free time to finish it.

The biggest delay came from accidentally releasing  a version where all the doors were unlocked, and so spoiling any suprises, so level design is under rework.

Some more background info, the game has now two modes, indoors and outdoors.  The remaining task is to finalize the outdoors, and find the combinations between the two of them. Right now it looks like it maybe released as two separate games, still TBD.

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to a finished version of your game. By the way, a two-player simultaneous mode could also be a good idea, if technically feasible?

Good job! https://c64universe.wordpress.com/2024/02/09/snakeescape64/

Nice update !

This union of the snake theme with the dungeon theme is very nice. The interlude with the magician who transforms the stars into keys is also very nice. I also really like the theme song. Compliments!

Thank you for the kind words!

The music has been done by CRISPS, his channel can be found here:  https://www.youtube.com/@CrispsCrispulent , there are some excellent tunes there :)

Very interesting idea but you can make it so that to unlock the key to open the exit , you need to collect all the stars. It will be more interesting and a bit more difficult ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good idea.  I might use it, if I can make it work.

It would be great if you made such changes. Also, you can add fake items which when collected subtract points from us or move stars to another place ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

FYI, suggested changes are implemented, and being tested now :)

I'm glad ๐Ÿ˜ If we can talk by email then you're welcome ๐Ÿ˜
