This is Snake Escape B3.
Guide Simon the Snake through many rooms, and head for the exit.

Catch stars, to get extra points, take keys to open doors. Eat pills to get short again(!).  And do not forget the ever ticking timer.

There is not more to say. This is as simple as it gets.

Use the keyboard. No, do not use the mouse or try it on you tablet.  This is old school. This is Retro! Old school graphics (text mode only, PETSCII based). Old school sounds. (All sounds are synthetic). Even old school programming language BASIC.   If you are done playing, press escape, and edit and modify the game listing, if you want.

But most importantly, it is free, it is fun, and try to have blast!

TROUBLESHOOTING:
This game is an experiment in usage of B3 Basic.  B3 Basic works fine on more power full hardware, but on older hardware you may get a big lag.  A few things you can try in case it does not work for you:

  1. Make sure you are on a computer and not on a Tablet. It has not been tested on Tablets yet.
  2. Try with a different browser. Sometimes Chrome beats Firefox when it comes to heavy lifting with java script.
  3. Check your browser settings, and check if you can turn on or off the hardware acceleration. I have seen cases where turning it on, make it faster, but also the other way around.
  4. Try on another (faster/newer) computer.  Sometimes B3 takes to many resources, and this is the only way.
  5. If you still have issues, I am happy to discuss them, and try to find a solution for you.

Happy Gaming

This is cool, the only issue I have is it seems like my arrow keys have an input latency? Like I press a key and have to wait 500ms until something happens?

Hi GrymmJack!

Thanks for the feedback!
On my work machine I do not have this issue, response time maybe 70ms or so.

But I have seen it working very slowly on not so fast computers or browsers.
Could you tell me a bit more about your browser (which + version) and your operating system (Windows, Mac or Linux), and the type of hardware you are running it on. Desktop, Laptop or Tablet, also high end, or old / low end.

If you don't want to to disclose this, this I understand, but any information is appreciated, and gives me clues to what the minimum requirements for the game are.  Also as a DM, if you don't want this information here in the chat!

The background here is, that Snake runs on B3, which has run fine so far on plenty of tested devices, but not all of them.  I'll work on optimizing it, but also I want to publish what is the minimum requirements, so people do not get disapointed.

Thanks for the feedback!

NP. This computer is almost 10 years old now I think. I've swapped PSUs, maxed out RAM, swapped HDs with SSDs, etc.

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2
  • PC: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz  3.39 GHz - 32.0 GB RAM - nVidia Titan XP and SSDs
  • Browser: Firefox 112.0.2 (64-bit) - Extensions: uBlock Origin, Bitwarden, Vimium, Bitdefender Anti-Tracker, Tree Style Tab
  • Antivirus: Bitdefender Plus

I have a much faster machine down in the nerd cave, I can test it there too if you like.

Hi!  If you won't mind, that would be awesome.  I am rather limited with how many machines I have myself to test it on.  So any tests on other hardware/browser is very much appreciated :)

Thanks!

NP. Works great on the newer PC.

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2 22621.1555
  • PC: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900K @ 3.50GHz   3.50 GHz - 32GB RAM - nVidia RTX 3070 and SSDs
  • Browser: Firefox v112.0.2 (64-bit) - Extensions: Extensions: uBlock Origin, Bitwarden, Vimium, Bitdefender Anti-Tracker, Tree Style Tab, Dark Reader
  • Antivirus: Bitdefender Plus

Thanks!  Ok, I need to figure out how to make it quicker on slower machines. But till then I think the difference seems to be the graphics cards, and windows version.  I think it might be the slow  graphics card on your older machine.  Have you tried to run on Chrome on the older one, and both on Firefox and Chrome, you can enable / disable hardware acceleration.  I find that depending on your hardware , the hardware acceleration helps or hinders the browser.
