HyperPyxel is a free, browser-based pixel art program that allows you to create and export digital art.

"Drawing from the legacy of paint programs on the Commodore Amiga, HyperPyxel offers a similar experience to classic tools such as Deluxe Paint and Brilliance. While it is not a direct clone of any specific program, HyperPyxel's interface features a GUI in the style of Brilliance and keyboard shortcuts similar to Deluxe Paint. The program also includes the ability to use any section of the screen as a brush and a palette for quick color selection."

Main features are:

  • Pixel accurate painting
  • Any picture size (retro and new sizes)
  • Large Zoom
  • Directly see changes in the Zoom area when moving the mouse around
  • Paint with brushes
  • Export to code
  • Key short cuts to many functions

Tips:

  1. The current version is optimized for google Chrome.  I sometimes experience a big lag using Fire Fox. This is because some features are much quicker in all tested Chromium browsers. A fix for this is planned for a future update.  If you want to use it now, and get the best experience, I suggest use a Chromium based browser. (For example Chrome or Edge)
  2. For loading and saving files locally, Hyperpyxel uses Upload and Download functionality.   To make the user experience better, configure your browser to let you select a folder and file name when downloading.  Otherwise it will just be saved always under the downloads folder, with a unnamed filename.
  3. Get comfortable with the key shortcuts.  You can find them in the HELP.  The ones I used most is <SPACE> to hide/show the button panel.  U for undo, SHIFT-U for Redo.  X and Y to flip a brush.  SHIFT-D and SHIFT-H to resize the brush to double or half size. J to work on a "Spare Page".
  4. There are multiple color palettes to work with.  If the default one is not to your liking, select another one for your purpose. This can be done by using the "Select" button next to the palette.  The edit button can be used to modify it as you want.
  5. Read the documentation of the program here: https://hyperpyxel.com/?page_id=161

We value your feedback and suggestions for improving HyperPyxel, so please feel free to share your thoughts with us."

Happy painting!
